On September 14, 2021, USCIS publicly announced the COVID-19 vaccination requirement for all green card applicants: Starting on October 1, 2021, all applicants who apply for a green card will need to be fully-vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to successfully complete the required medical examination with a civil surgeon. This new requirement is done in accordance with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s August 17, 2021 update on the COVID-19 vaccination instructions found in the Technical Instructions for Civil Surgeons. The complete vaccine series (either 1 or 2 doses, depending on which vaccine) and proper documentation will need to be shown to the civil surgeon. The new requirement only applies to medical exams performs starting October 1, 2021. If the medical exam was completed before October 1, then this requirement does not apply. There are certain exemptions and waivers for certain reasons, including age, medical condition, religious beliefs, etc.
